New Terminal Opens At Birmingham Airport

Birmingham City leaders are set to cut the ribbon on a new terminal at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

The terminal will feature 13 new gates, a ticketing counter a new security checkpoint area and a new baggage claim area.

The new terminal is part of a $201 million modernization project being done in two phases.

Airport Project in Birmingham Two-Thirds Complete

A project to modernize the terminal at Birmingham's airport is about two-thirds complete.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/UejcJD) that Tom Wesley of Birmingham's airport authority provided board members with an update on the project this week.

He said the airport authority has spent 67 percent of the $201.6 million allotted for the entire two-phased project at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Authorities say the project will mean more amenities for passengers and also bring the airport in line with post-Sept.

Airport Exhibits to Spotlight History, Tourism

Travelers arriving at the renovated Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport are going to get a taste of some of Alabama's history and tourist attractions.

Officials said an exhibit will honor the airport's namesake, civil rights pioneer Fred Shuttlesworth. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is designing the exhibit.

The Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham will provide an exhibit of rare artifacts and photographs from the Tuskegee Airmen.
