Election Day is here and there are less than two hours until the polls close! The League of Women Voters is asking all Alabamians to show up at the polls and cast their ballots. The League is a non-partisan group dedicated to educating the public on voting. Their goal is for citizens to be informed so they can go to the polls and vote for the candidate that they think is best. Catherine Bird is the Vice President of the League of Women Voters in Alabama. She says she feels like Alabamians should want to come out and vote…

“The entire State Legislature is up for election, and if people don’t think that’s important, then they should remember who it is that decides what the education budget will be and laws that touch their daily lives.”

Voting is ongoing and will take place until all the precincts close around seven tonight. Be sure to join Alabama Public Radio and NPR for special coverage tonight starting at seven.

People in North Alabama wanting to know more about the Affordable Care Act can get more information today. The Muscle Shoals Public Library and the Helen Keller hospital are hosting an Affordable Care Act and Health Insurance Marketplace information session today. The event is the result of a partnership with the non-partisan organization Enroll Alabama. The mission of the organization is to enroll Alabamians in the Health Insurance Marketplace. Tranisa Caldwell is the field navigator for the Northern Alabama region for Enroll Alabama. She says that many people do not enroll due to political beliefs.

“It’s so political at times; people fail to see the benefits of it. Some people just see it as blue and red. People don’t want to be a part of this because Obama created this. People are failing to see the benefits of it. Those are the opportunities for education.”

The education session is being held at the Muscle Shoals Public Library. The event will begin at six tonight and is open to the public.
