Havana, Cuba – A week long meeting between Cuban and US farm officials continues in Havana.
Alabama is among 28 other states that are in Cuba this week to negotiate contracts for importing millions of dollars in US farm goods.
Yesterday, about a dozen US officials met with Fidel Castro, but didn't talk about politics of the Communist nation. Instead, discussing wheat and energy prices. Cuba says it wants to sign contracts worth as much as 130 million dollars to buy American farm products. Castro's private meeting yesterday underscores the importance Cuba is now putting on trade with U-S companies ... two years after gaining an exception to the current U-S trade embargo. That exception allows the import of American farm products.
Farm contract negotiations end tomorrow.
