Mobile, AL – Pensacola's Baptist Hospital says it will operate a helicopter ambulance service in Mobile by flying more missions and cutting costs. The hospital plans to take over Mobile's air ambulance service beginning April 1st. The University of South Alabama revealed earlier this month that it planned to quit flying at the end of March. Pensacola's Baptist Hospital plans to lease a new helicopter and use it in Mobile County. The University of South Alabama and Baptist Hospital officials say the new service will be called LifeFlight-Mobile. It will serve Mobile and outlying areas and will not take people to Pensacola.
