Governor Wins Some, Loses Some

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Bob Riley has seen mixed legislative success this week.
A Senate committee has delayed bills from Riley that seek to redesign the state health insurance program and end the Deferred Retirement Option Program. Instead, the committee approved legislation that would prevent state workers from paying more for health insurance until they get cost-of-living raises.
That measure now goes to the Senate.
Meanwhile, an Alabama House committee approved four of the Governor's bills aimed at increasing revenue.
The legislation would bring changes to fees for outdoor advertising and driving records, as well as lodging taxes.
The increases would raise about 15-point-8 million dollars.
