Washington, DC – U-S Senator Jeff Sessions has suggested the Pentagon should close some American military bases in Europe before it tries to shut down such installations here. Sessions and a senator from Georgia recently returned from a tour of military bases in Europe. They concluded many of the operations handled there could be done just as easily from the U-S. Sessions says more than 128-thousand troops and civilians are connected with bases on that continent. Several of those installations were established decades ago when the Soviet Union was America's largest foreign threat. The Pentagon will begin its next round of base realignments and closures next year. Alabama's elected leaders have already begun campaigns to shield the state's military installations from future cuts.
