Third Case of Virus Found in Baldwin County

By Alabama Public Radio

Baldwin County, AL – Another case of a dangerous mosquito-borne virus has been discovered in Baldwin County. It's the third recorded animal case of eastern equine encephalitis in the county this year. A sentinel chicken in the Loxley area tested positive for the virus. So far, the state health department reports Baldwin is the only county where Triple-E has been confirmed in birds or horses. There have been no human cases reported of triple-E in the county. Rachel Jennings, an environmentalist for the Baldwin County health department, says eastern equine encephalitis can be more dangerous to people than other mosquito-borne viruses.
