More Diversity in GOP Delegation

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's delegation to the Republican National Convention has two more black members. Doris Oliveira and Doug Moore are replacing Susan Barganier and Dick Brewbaker, who say they left for personal reasons. The changes come after news that only one member of the state's 48 person Republican delegation was black. Alabama is one of a few states that directly elects its convention delegates. State party officials say that process may be reviewed to ensure more diversity. None of the original three automatic delegates or 45 elected delegates was black. All three were appointed to the delegation after other delegates gave up their spots.
