Killer Bees Captured in Mobile County

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks says Africanized bees have been captured in Mobile County. They may be better known as killer bees. Sparks says there's no need to be alarmed, but people should remain cautious. The bees have spread from Texas into other states. The Africanized bees have less potent venom than other bees, but they are territorial and very aggressive. Sparks says during the last two weeks, four of the six bee swarms trapped in Mobile County have tested positive as Africanized bees.
