Montgomery, AL – New U-S Census Bureau figures suggest more than 15 percent of Alabama's residents live in poverty. The report also indicates the state's household income remains among the lowest in the country. The census figures for the three-year period ending December 31st of last year show the state's poverty rate was 15-point-one percent. That's eighth highest in the country. Alabama's median household income was 37-thousand-419 dollars. That's eighth lowest in the country. However, Alabama has a smaller percentage of people living without health insurance than the national average.
