Birmingham, AL – Attorneys for Alabama and Florida want a federal judge to prevent Georgia from taking more water from the Chattahoochee River. Specifically, the states want the judge to prevent the U-S- Army Corps of Engineers from beginning a construction project that would divert water from a key reservoir to the Atlanta area. Representatives of both states were in Birmingham yesterday to fight the agreement between the Corps and Georgia. Meanwhile, the corps and Georgia are asking the judge to lift a previous order that temporarily bars the deal from taking effect. The judge did not issue a ruling.
