Baldwin County, AL – Hurricane Ivan hit Alabama on September 16th, leaving tons of debris across several counties, including Baldwin. Now Baldwin County officials want written confirmation that they'll be reimbursed for most of the estimated $2 million cost of picking up that debris. And they want to be sure that they won't be held responsible for damage to vehicles before the material is removed from the roadsides. Remains are piled along more than 300 miles of state highways, and state and county officials are currently debating responsibility for the costly debris removal. Baldwin County Commissioner Frank Burt says the state Department of Transportation is responsible for cleaning the state's highways. But DOT's Don Vaughn disagrees, saying the county or a local government would be responsible for material that's hauled up by property owners from private property beyond the state right of way.
