Bills Would Affect Public Schools

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The state Senate Education Committee has passed two bills that would affect Alabama's public schools. One would require schools to begin each day with the Pledge of Allegiance. The other bill would require public schools to display framed or mounted copies of the Ten Commandments, Magna Carta, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights. That bill's sponsor, Senator Curt Lee, says the documents provided the foundation for American government and should be displayed daily in every public school in the state. Both bills now go to the Senate for consideration.
