Birmingham, AL – Wednesday may have been the final day of testimony from Bill Owens. He's the former HealthSouth Chief Financial Officer who has spent eleven days testifying against his former boss, Richard Scrushy. Owens told the federal jury that Scrushy wasn't shocked when he heard about some phony financial statements. The comment was made in a secretly recorded conversation between Owens and Scrushy. Prosecutors say those recordings prove Scrushy orchestrated the fraud. But defense attorneys say it was Owens and a group of subordinates who committed the fraud. Owens is among 15 former HealthSouth executives who have pleaded guilty in the case and agreed to testify against Scrushy.
