Alabama House Agenda Full

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Tuskegee Democrat Pebblin Warren will be sworn-in as the newest member of the state House Thursday. Warren was elected Tuesday in a special election to the vacant House District 82 seat. Meanwhile, a House committee is expected to vote Thursday morning on a $1.53 billion General Fund budget for the next fiscal year. The budget would fund most non-education state services, like state troopers, Medicaid and prisons. The budget does adopt some of the recommendations from Governor Riley's proposed spending plans. But the committee's version takes less money from the education budget for programs traditionally funded by the General Fund. The House Government Finance and Appropriations Committee discussed the proposed spending plan for more than three hours Wednesday without taking a vote.
