HealthSouth Official Ages Out of Company

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – HealthSouth's former chairman Joel Gordon is resigning from the company's board because of his age. He's 76, and Gordon stated in a press release that he has reached the retirement age mandated by the company's guidelines -- 75. His resignation will take effect May 10th. Gordon has been on HealthSouth's board since 1996. He became interim chairman in March 2003 after the company's massive accounting scandal became public. That's when the company placed former C-E-O Richard Scrushy on administrative leave. He was later fired. HealthSouth officials are praising Gordon for helping the company emerge from its legal problems.
