Montgomery, AL – The Alabama House has rejected a bill that would have prevented students from dropping out of school until the age of 18, unless they had agreed to pursue a GED or vocational training. Bill sponsor, Birmingham Representative John Rogers, says the bill was aimed at encouraging teenagers to do more with their lives than just hang out on the streets. But several lawmakers questioned how schools owuld deal with "unruly" 16- and 17-year-old students.
