Montgomery, AL – A bill that would have removed voter registrars from Secretary of State Nancy Worley's oversight has been rejected. The House Constitution and Elections Committee defeated it on a seven to six vote. But committee chairman, Representative Ken Guin, also lectured Worley about improving the way her office deals with people. Worley said she will continue to operate her office in a business-like manner, and she doesn't have time to make sure she doesn't hurt anyone's feelings. Voter registrars had been independent until 2003 when the Legislature moved them under the supervision of the Secretary of State's office.
