Parrish Police Chief Killed in Birmingham

Birmingham, AL – Acting Parrish Police Chief Sonny Sorrell was shot and killed in front of the Jefferson County Jail in downtown Birmihgham. Authorities say the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Monday. Birmingham police are leading the investigation, and dozens of officers have barricaded an eight-block perimeter around the jail. Birmingham police have not yet said why Sorrell was in Birmingham. They say a search continues for a suspect or suspects in the fatal shooting. Parrish is located in Walker County.
