Undated, AL – Alabamians and other residents throughout the south can begin getting free credit reports Wednesday. Congress passed a law last year giving consumers free access to their credit reports. It's being phased in across the country, and Alabama and ten other Southern states will be eligible for the program starting Wednesday. Credit report contains more than just financial information. They also include a person's address, how that person pays bills, and other information about a person's credit history. Consumer advocates recommend examining personal credit reports to make sure they don't contain errors that could hurt a person's ability to borrow money, purchase a home or buy a car.
