Judge Asks Jury to Work Harder for Verdict

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Federal Judge Karon Bowdre Friday ordered jurors to continue deliberating in the trial of former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy. The jury indicated it was unable to reach a verdict in the case. Friday was the tenth day of deliberations, and about two hours had passed when jurors sent a handwritten note to the judge. Bowdre urged the panel to continue, saying the trial had already taken up a lot of time, and both the government and Scrushy had made extensive efforts in the case. She also told jurors if they fail to agree on a verdict, the case will have to be tried again.
