Montgomery, AL – Candidates seeking public office could begin raising money for their political campaigns Monday. It was the first day to start fundraising for the 2006 election cycle. The position of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court will be up for grabs next year. The race could pit Republican incumbent Drayton Nabers against Sue Bell Cobb, the only Democrat on the state's entire appellate court system. Cobb serves on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals and says she's definitely considering a campaign for chief justice. Nabers was appointed to the position last year and says he's enjoying his job. He also says he's seriously considering next year's campaign. However, both Nabers and Cobb say they won't make an official announcement until later this summer.
