Birmingham, AL – Deadlocked jurors will return for more deliberations this morning in the trial of former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. Scrushy is charged with orchestrating a $2.7 billion overstatement of the medical chain's earnings. Two hours into their 10th day of deliberations on Friday, jurors sent yet another note to Federal Judge Karon Bowdre, saying they were unable to reach a verdict on any of the charges. Bowdre sent the jury home about 2:45 Friday afternoon, with deliberations set to resume at 8:30 Monday morning. Both prosecutors and the defense ruled out any plea deal, but the possibility of a mistrial is looming, and both sides are predicting victory in the end. Scrushy's trial started in January.
