Undated – The Census Bureau is mailing out a new survey to Alabama households. They're hoping they'll get most of them back, but based on past experience, that may be too much to ask. Spokesperson Shelly Lowe says about one-third of Alabama households aren't filling out the American Community Survey. She says that ranks the state among the worst 20 percent in the country for response rates. Lowe says if people don't respond, the Census Bureau will follow up with phone calls or a personal visit. The survey will be sent to about 42-hundred Alabama households each month.
