Montgomery, AL – State Representative Jack Williams has asked Governor Riley to include a specific bill in the scheduled special session later this summer. It would provide assistance for families of guardsmen and reservists who are deployed overseas. Specifically, the legislation would create a voluntary checkoff on Alabama income tax forms to provide assistance to families of Alabama National Guard and Reserve members who are serving overseas. Similar legislation was introduced earlier this year, but it died on the final day of the regular session. Williams says some members of the guard and reserves take pay cuts when they're deployed. He says the Legislature should not wait until next year's regular session to pass the bill.
