Long-Time Poarch Creek Chief Ousted

By Alabama Public Radio

Atmore, AL – Eddie Tullis has lost his seat as chair of the Poarch Creek Indians. Tullis had held the post for 30 years. The nine-member tribal council on a secret ballot elected Fred McGhee to replace him. Tullis says he'll continue to oversee operations at the tribe's Riverside gaming facility in Wetumpka. He'll also maintain oversight on a proposed $300 million hotel and casino project at that Riverside location. Tullis is also still chair of the tribe's gaming board. But he'll no longer handle any governmental work for the tribe that's located near Atmore. Tullis was re-elected to the council with an all-time record vote but says he was voted out of the chair seat by only one vote. Poarch Creek officers do face a council vote every three years.
