Enterprise, AL – A health official investigating an alleged goat sighting near an Enterprise restaurant instead found the animal dead and being processed as meat inside the establishment on Tuesday. The Coffee County public health official went to El Patio restaurant to investigate a claim that a goat had been seen at the rear of the building. When he got there, he found the animal's carcass being processed inside the restaurant. Employees say the meat was intended for personal use by staff members. But the health department requires all meat products in a restaurant to have an official Inspected and Passed mark. That's regardless of whether the products are intended for sale or personal use. So the official ordered the restaurant to close, remove the uninspected goat meat and clean and sanitize the premises. The state Department of Health says the restaurant was reinspected and reopened later in the day.
