Montgomery, AL – The state Board of Veterans Affairs says it will not renew Frank Wilkes' contract when it expires in September. He has been the board's long-time director. The board asked its vice chairman, James Jackson, to send a letter to employees of the state Department of Veterans Affairs to notify them of the decision. The letter will state there are no plans to lay off employees or close offices, and it will also urge workers not to speculate on how a department audit and an attorney general's investigation will turn out.
