Cindy Shuts Down Oil Platforms

Gulf of Mexico – Nearly 13 percent of the Gulf of Mexico's daily oil production was shut off Wednesday as Tropical Storm Cindy approached. Production platforms were evacuated to avoid the storm. The U-S Minerals Management Service says 85 platforms were evacuated and shut down. The service says eleven drilling rigs were left idle. The Gulf of Mexico has 819 staffed production platforms and 135 rigs.
