Lee Does Not Choose to Run, Two Others Might

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Senator Curt Lee has told some of his fellow legislators that he will not seek another term in 2006. The Jasper Republican has served two terms in the Senate. He sparked a lockdown of the Capitol in July when a custodian saw a man and woman run from the old House chamber before dawn. Police shut down the Capitol while they searched the building. They then used security video and card key records to identify the man as Senator Lee. Lee has issued an apology and said nothing inappropriate occurred. Meanwhile, former state Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bishop says he will run as a Republican to succeed Lee. Jasper Attorney Jonathan Sapp says he's considering running as a Democrat.
