Governor Describes Devastation

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Governor Bob Riley joined others on an aerial tour of Alabama Tuesday to survey storm damage. He says Dauphin Island may have received the worst of it. He says many houses there have been demolished, and it appears much of the beach at Dauphin Island is gone. Damage also is significant around Bayou La Batre. The governor says he saw shrimp boats piled on top of other shrimp boats. He compared the damage to what was left when Hurricane Ivan came through last September. The aerial tour covered parts of Mobile, Baldwin and Washington counties.
