Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley has announced that he is forming Operation Golden Rule to help find long-term housing for people who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. The project will also raise funds to cover those unmet needs of victims. The Governor says his goal is to found housing for 10,000 hurricane victims. The state government is currently trying to mobilize all available space for that purpose. And Riley has told all agencies and cabinet members to look for further solutions to the problem. The Governor toured former military installations Fort McClellan and Middle Bay Port Thursday. He's also considering opening closed mental health facilities as part of the effort to assist neighboring states. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will evaluate each facility to determine if it can be used for housing evacuees and will then decide who will reside there.
