Mobile County Opens Schools

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Mobile County's public schools are set to open Monday. Grand Bay Middle School was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina and won't be ready for students for another six months. It is the only school that will not open in the county. School officials say students returning to the other one-hundred schools can expect up to one-thousand new students from Mississippi and Louisiana who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Baldwin County students returned to class last Tuesday and have already received more than 500 hurricane evacuees.
