Auburn, AL – It's check-up time for Auburn University. Members of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools plan to visit the campus Sunday to review the school nine months after it was removed from probation. The team of administrators will spend three days looking into the university's search for a new president, potential conflicts of interest among trustees and periodic evaluations of the university president. SACS lifted Auburn's probationary status in December 2004 after deciding problems with trustees had been solved. Auburn managed to elude the death penalty of lost accreditation. Loss of accreditation could have cost the university tens of millions of dollars in federal grants. It also could have strongly damaged the university's national reputation.
