Car Rentals Up in Wake of Katrina

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – The majority of companies say they've been able to assist customers by pulling in hundreds of cars from other markets. Charles Pulley, spokesman for Vanguard Car Rental U-S-A says his company is `moving cars all over the Gulf region to accommodate increasing demand related to storm relief. Chuck Carr, Enterprise's regional vice president for north Alabama, says his firm has rented vehicles to storm relief workers since the hurricane. He says most of the storm-related business has been contracted through insurance companies.
