Cruise Ships to Wait Out Rita in Mobile

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – The Ecstasy and the Sensation from Carnival Cruise Line had been in New Orleans as part of the hurricane Katrina relief effort. But they are moving to Mobile to get away from Rita. The Ecstasy will be at the Alabama State Docks and the Sensation will berth near Carnival's Holiday cruise ship, which normally sails out of Mobile. The federal government has leased all three ships to use in the relief effort. The deal is worth 192 million dollars. A Carnival spokesman says the Ecstasy and the Sensation will return to New Orleans after Hurricane Rita moves inland. Carnival says the Holiday should return to its normal cruise schedule from Mobile on March 27th.
