GPS Rocket Made in AL

By Alabama Public Radio

Decatur, AL – An overnight (Sunday) launch from Florida has sent up a rocket carrying the first of a new generation of Global Positioning System satellites. The program has had several delays in the past six months because of technical issues. Eight new GPS spacecraft are planned. They'll provide stronger signals, better protection against jamming and additional signals for both military and civilian users. The 24-satellite GPS system has been in full operation for ten years.
