Authorities Search for 2 Inmates

By Alabama Public Radio

Goodwater, AL – State prisons spokesman Brian Corbett says the two inmates fled Wednesday morning in a Goodwater city vehicle stolen from the city's maintenance shop. Corbett identified the escapees as 48-year-old Donald Wayne Smith Junior and 40-year-old Norman Wayne Griffin. Both inmates are white males and neither is believed to be armed. Smith is serving a 20-year sentence for a theft-related conviction in Mobile County. Griffin, sentenced out of Walker and Blount counties, is also serving a 20-year prison term for third-degree robbery and theft. A description of the stolen vehicle was not immediately available.
