Montevallo, AL – A proposed national veterans cemetery in Montevallo is closer to becoming a reality. An environmental assessment is underway on properties that encompass about 300 acres of gently rolling hills near the American Village. A veterans affairs official say the assessment has already determined the site is suitable for a national cemetery. He also says no other site in Alabama is being considered. Once the assessment is complete, land aquisition efforts will begin, then the cemetery will be designed and construction contracts will be let. The project is expected to be completed within five years.
