Baxley Asks AG King for Reappraisal Opinion

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley's administration started phasing in the annual reappraisals in 2003. Two other candidates for governor, Don Siegelman and Roy Moore, have said state law doesn't require them and that if elected, they would end the practice. Baxley, who's also running for governor, says both positions can't be right so she wants the state's top attorney to give his opinion. A spokesman for Governor Riley says lawyers at the state Revenue Department believe state law requires annual reappraisals, and the governor can't pick and choose which laws to follow.
