Husband and Wife Go for State Offices

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Greg Shaw announced Thursday he will seek re-election in the Republican primary on June sixth. His wife began her Republican campaign for state auditor in September. She's also serving as campaign manager for her husband. Alabama has had several instances were couples have held public offices simultaneously at the local or district level or in a political party, but William Stewart, a political scientist at the University of Alabama, says he is not aware of any at the statewide level. Samantha Shaw is one four Republicans running for state auditor. Greg Shaw is finishing his first term as a Criminal Appeals Court Judge after defeating Democratic incumbent Jimmy Fry in 2000.
