Montgomery, AL – State troopers have compiled statistics showing they've handled 29-thousand-440 wrecks as of November second. Traffic accidents have killed 663 people and injured more than 14-thousand-300. Troopers say 42 percent of this year's roadway accidents have occurred on county roads. State Public Safety Director Colonel Mike Coppage says seat belts and child restraints were not used in 61 percent of fatal accidents. It appears the trend continues from last year, which was a record-setting year for traffic fatalities in Alabama. One-thousand-154 people died in wrecks last year. That's a number that has gradually increased every year since 2000.
