Wetumpka, AL – The monument in Wetumpka on the courthouse square lists the names of Elmore County military personnel who have served since the nine-eleven terrorist attacks. The granite monument listing more than 400 names shows a soldier with a shouldered rifle. First Lieutenant Earnest Hearn says the monument says a lot about how the city and county have supported the military and their families. Hearn is commanding officer of the 1209th Quartermaster Detachment, a Wetumpka-based National Guard unit that was sent to Iraq.
