Montgomery, AL – The regulations were ordered by Governor Bob Riley to review prison work programs after three murderers escaped from them this summer. The new rules affect 28 inmates on work release who have been convicted of either murder, manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. Prisons spokesman Brian Corbett says it's unclear how many other inmates would have been eligible before the new rules were adopted. Corbett says the governor's office had reviewed the suggestions by prisons Commissioner Donal Campbell and approved the changes.
