Judge Says State Bid Law Doesn't Apply to Maternity Contracts

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – US Attorney Alice Martin says she will appeal the ruling by US District Judge UW Clemon to the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals. Martin says the appeal will cause a delay in Bobo's trial, which had been scheduled for November 28th. Bobo is charged with conspiracy and health care fraud involving state Medicaid contracts to provide maternity care for poor women. Prosecutors say he conspired to obtain 550-thousand dollars in state funds to pay off a competitor for the Medicaid contracts in 1999.
