Cramer Wants More Money to Fight Meth

By Alabama Public Radio

Huntsville, AL – Methamphetamine use continues to go up in parts of Alabama, and Congressman Bud Cramer says even more money is needed to fight the problem. He says he knows some money has already been set aside to create meth task forces, but Cramer says the "front line" officers who regularly deal with the drug need more aid. He cited the Huntsville-Madison County Strategic Counterdrug Team as an example. The team originally received 75 percent of its funding through federal money. During the past year, though, the group had to match 50 percent of the funds. Team Commander Gerry Norris says that nearly killed the program. He says next year the group probably will have to provide 75 percent of its operating funds.
