Flowers Retires After 42 Years

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – This is the final month on the job for state Personnel Director Tommy Flowers. He's spent about 42 years in state government, with the last seven or so as personnel director. He's been responsible for managing the hiring of more than 33-thousand state workers. Flowers says he feels good about the state employee workforce, and he says he's pleased about the progress made toward settling several discrimination lawsuits that challenge Alabama's hiring practices. The Alabama Personnel Board has named Flowers' deputy, Jackie Graham, to take over the position.
