ASEA Challenges State Personnel Board

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – The Alabama State Employees Association is challenging the replacement of former state personnel director Tommy Flowers.
Flowers retired earlier this week and his deputy director Jackie Graham was appointed as the new director by the state personnel board. But Mac McArthur, executive director of the Alabama State Employees Association says the board should have held a formal search to fill the position and that it was thumbing its nose at taxpayers by failing to do so.. However, Flowers says the responsibility of appointing a new director belong to the state personnel board, and that the board complied with state law.
McArthur says he will ask Governor Bob Riley to investigate the issue.
