Birmingham, AL – The group plans to raise 190 thousand dollars by April to save the 1930s mural on the walls of the school's auditorium. The committee is called Save the Woodlawn Mural, and members include Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden, former Alabama football star Tony Nathan, state Representative Oliver Robinson, and Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale. The group is chaired by Mountain Brook Mayor Terry Oden. 3-thousand letters to school alumni have already been sent out, asking for donations. The auditorium is being renovated as part of an 11.2 million dollar project to improve the school, but there is no money in that fund to restore the mural.
