Montgomery, AL – Highlights from the speech include:
- a call for a tax cut for all Alabamians by raising the threshold where citizens start paying the state income tax.
- proposed pay raises for school workers and state employees.
- a proposed 500 million dollar construction program for public schools, two-year colleges and universities.
- a recommendation of adding five days to the state's school year for a total of 180 instructional days.
- a call to limit state legislators to serving 12 years in each house.
- a recommendation to enact a constitutional amendment to restrict the use of eminent domain by city, county and state governments to obtain private property.
- and a proposed state sales tax holiday for back-to-school purchases.
